Birth of the "Charlière" or gas balloon

As soon as he heard the news of the flight of the aerostat by the Montgolfier brothers on June 4, 1783, the physicist Jacques Alexandre Charles (1746 to 1823) built an inflated hydrogen balloon.

December 1, 1783-Charles flew over the Tuileries in Paris with Marie-Noël Robert. They landed at Nesles-la-Vallée. Charles left again alone and ascended up to 3000m. He never again ascended afterward.
Charles built a perfect gas balloon: varnished envelope, net, wicker basket, inflation appendages, pressure flap, ballast and anchor. The basket contained a barometer and other meteorological instruments.
